Listening- Unusual homes

Description

In this exercise, ss will be introduced to 8 kinds of unusual homes and listen to discriptions of 3 . They will be exposed to sentence structures of how to use make, let and allow.

Materials

Abc Screen, flash drive, handouts

Main Aims

  • To comprehend the audio regarding unusual homes and the rules one would apply to their house lifestyle.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide new vocabs to ease the listening comprehension.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

ss will be introduced to the title " unusual home" by seeing the phrase on the board.

Pre-Listening (8-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the audio

ss will look at each image displayed on the screen. 6 different kinds of unusual homes will be introduced. Here, I will show them the image and elicit the words. Then, they will know the meanings of each. The words are: windmill, cave, lighthouse, tree house, mobile home, houseboat. We will focus on each one`s pronunciation and syl stress. Then I will lead the answers to also elicit : authorities, local, camp, dramatic and lonely. Because reminding these words will help them for a better listening comprehension.

Listening #1 (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

Three audios will be played and they will answer which ones of unusual homes have been talked about.

Listening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Then the audio will be played again, and they will make notes about best and worst things about each one. This time, I can play the audio twice. Then they will check with their pair.

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

one ss will come to the board. He/she will put an image of one house over their forehead and the other will explain what kind of home it is. He/she will guess till he/she will find the name of the home.
