Main Aims

  • To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about Socializing in the context of the great international night out

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a debate in the context of being for or against socializing

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-I would begin by asking ss what they did when they went out recently. -in small groups, Ss check the meaning of "live music & karaoke" . They discuss the answers before reporting back to the whole class..

Pre-teach (5-10 minutes) • exposing Ss to the difficult words that might hinder their understanding of the text.

I give Ss cut-ups and ask Ss to work in pairs to match the words with their definitions. -I ask some CCQs to make sure they understood the instructions Are you going to work individually or in pairs? In pairs Are you going to answer or match? match.

Reading for gist (10-15 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

-I write the title of the text on the board "Socializing" and ask Ss what the meaning of socializing mean . I also ask them to predict what they are going to read about. then, in groups I ask them to compare their answers. I don't support any answer positively or negatively. -I ask Ss to read the first paragraph and and decide which three activities in exercise one are mentioned and which country/ countries they associate with these things. -I display the answers on ppt and ask Ss to check theirs. -SS are asked to read the rest of the article quickly and work in pairs to complete the sentences in exercise three. -Ss mingle to check their answers which are stuck on the wall.

Productive Task(speaking) (10-13 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

-I divide the class into 2 groups and ask some to be for and other to be against socializing -I monitor and provide them with any vocabulary they need. -I write some notes on the board.

Feedback and Error Correction (2-4 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

I ask Ss to comment on the errors written on the board. -I prompt them to correct them. -I discuss with them some ideas as a content feedback.
