The T writes two sentences from the interview on the board. One is the zero conditional and the other one is the first conditiinal. 1.When people get angry, they don't know what to do with their anger. 2.When we get there, I'll give you a hammer. The T asks CCQs to clarify the use and meaning of both conditionals. CCQs: 1a.Is Present or Future Simple used in the sentence? (Present) 1b.Is the sentence about a general situation or a future situation? (General) 2a.Is Present or Future Simple used in the sentence? (Both) 2b.What tense is used after "when"? ( Present) 2c.What tense is used in the second part of the sentence? (Future) 2d.Is the sentence about a general situation or a future situation? The T elicits answers from the students. The T gives the hand outs. The T gives the instructions. ''Match the rules with the examples.'' The T elicits the answers from students. The T focuses the SS's attention on meaning of both conditionals (the first conditional is used to talk about the things in the future, the zero conditional is used to talk about general situation or something which is always true). The T uses back chaining and focuses the SS's attention on the contractions ''I'll'' and ''we'll'', and the weak form of ''ll''. Drill the sentences in choral repetition.
The T gives out the hand outs. The T gives the instructions ''Complete the sentences with the correct form of the verbs in brackets.Mark each sentence zero(o) or first (1st) conditional.Check in pairs.'' The T monitors the students. The T goes over the sentences that are difficult. The T asks to unfold the handout and check their answers.
SS will be given cut-ups. The T gives the instructions. ''Complete the unfinished sentences with two ideas of your own. Check your ideas in group.'' The T asks ICQs to be sure they understand the activity. ICQs: What do you complete the sentences with? (your ideas) How many ideas? (two) Do you check in pairs? (No, in group) The T monitors the students. The T elicits the answers from the students.
The T gives instructions.'' Write down two parts of conditional sentences. One is the zero condition and the other is the first condition. Try to memorize them. Now stand up and form a circle. I say a half conditional sentence and throw the ball to a student and ask him to complete my sentence. The student who completes the sentence, tells his half sentence and throws the ball to another student.'' The T demonstrates the activity with one student.
