in this lesson ss will talk about their lives and cost of living in Istanbul and in comparison with some other cities in Turkey.they will talk about expenses and those things they usually spend money on. they will be provided by some related vocabulary . I try to simplify speaking by providing the ss a podcast related to the topic.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about cost of living

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will tell my own story about amount of money I have spent in last two weeks and through that I will teach some vocabulary , I want to ask them to talk about whether they are stingy or spendthrift and why, they do it in pairs and later we will have feedback

Exposure (9-12 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

they are going to have a listening about cost of living, they will have some gist questions and we can hear it only one time.they will check the answers in pairs and later we have whole class feedback. then with some phrases from listening I ask them some personal questions so that they are getting ready for starting speaking.

Productive Task(s) (18-25 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

some pre- fabricated questions which will be given as HO , so they have to have to answer them about their own life. they have to extend it and talk about their own costs of living and kind of comparison with other cities in Turkey or other cities abroad. the pairs will be changed several times.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

while they are speaking , I am not going to distract them or stop them for error correction , I just write them on separate sheets .later I will give sheets to my ss so they have to be in 2 groups and work on the errors.
