Speaking lesson

Description

This lesson will focus on speaking. Students will engage in working in pairs to have a short conversation about electronic gadgets to arouse their interests towards the topic. Then, they will be engaged in discussing about book cover and book review information. They will listen to a radio breakfast show which which gives a lot of information about that book that the students have already been involved in. Then, students will be given a matching task of some new words extracted from the listening task. Surely, they will be provided clear definitions in case they hesitate At the end of the lesson, students will be involved in discussing questions with their partners. Some answers will be elicited and discussed in whole group.

Main Aims

  • to raise students' speaking fluency in the context of book reviews

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide students listening for gist and specific information in the same context; to provide them useful language and new vocabulary related to the topic

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will be shown some pictures of electronic gadgets to make them guess what they are going to discuss in the next activity. Then, they will work in pairs and ask each other questions given in a handout.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To get students to guess about book review ; To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening

Students will be given a task which they will look at the book cover and the book review information. How do Ss think the three teenagers feel? Then, Ss will listen to a radio breakfast show where the guests are discussing about. They will answer the questions below the task. After that, Ss will listen to the second part of the track and will discuss why the experiment was positive of negative.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Ss will be given a matching task including words extracted from the tape script of the previous task with definitions. Then, they will be given a matching task once more which includes useful language of the lesson.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ss will get engaged in a speaking task which they need to work in pairs and answer the questions using the learnt useful language.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

In this stage, T will discuss students' mistakes and errors that they have already made in their speech. Then, T will give feedbacks.
