In this lesson, students will have the opportunity to use the language they learned before for talking about the differences between their apartments and neighbors. First they do the activity of "Spot the differences" between two pictures and then they try to talk about their real neighbors.


Abc Pictures

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a comparing task in the context of different neighbors

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of the present continuous in the context of neighbors


Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will listen to T's talking about her neighborhood and its people and ask about their neighborhood.

Exposure (4-6 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

*Students will be divided into two groups A&B. *Ss will receive two pictures and they have to talk about each picture in their groups. ICQs: Do you work with your your partners? Yes Do you write something or Talk? Talk

Useful Language (5-7 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T will use the feedback on language accuracy of the previous stage as a lead-in for the current stage. * T will write Ss' mistakes on the board and ask them to correct them in order to review the grammar. * T will clarify present continuous tense with asking CCQs: Is it about "Now" ? Yes Is it (pointing to a sentence on the board) finished or continuous? Continuous * T will write the form on the board

Productive Task(s) (16-18 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

* Ss will work in pairs (One A & one B). *Ss must talk about their pictures without showing them and the partner must find the differences. ICQs: Are the pictures different? Yes Do you show you pictures to your partner? No Do you write or talk? Talk Do you circle the differences? Yes Feedback on content: Ss must show their pictures and check their answers. * Ss must talk about their own neighbors in group. *ICQs: Do you talk about the pictures? No

Feedback and Error Correction (5-7 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

*Feedback on the content: Ss have to talk about their partners. *Feedback on language accuracy: Ss will receive their mistakes on the papers and they have to correct it in their groups. Then, they have to write the correct ones on the board.
