To provide clarification of Technology words in the context of personal use
to use a lexical set of technology items correctly
Procedure (24-34 minutes)
Explain " technology" ( electronic items for science and personal use). Tell ss to think of technology items they use daily.Elicit some of the vocab in Ex. 2a using realia.
-ask ss to close their books and pay attention. -use real objects as much as possible or some pictures of tech. items. -tell ss to open their books on p.32 Ex.2a and look at the pictures of the tech items . -elicit the items in Ex 2a.
- use cards or some objects to show the meaning of tech items. - ask ss to try to give a definition of some vocab e.g (tablet- satnav-e-reader-printer ) and how can they use them? - pronounce the words to the class. get ss to repeat individually then chorally . play a recording to provide the correct pronunciation and the stressed syllable of each word - write them on board and show the form of them and how many syllables they have. - ask ss: Is "tablet" a noun or a verb? how many syllables does it have? which is the stressed syllable? (icqs)
ss answer Ex. 2a individually, they match the words with the pictures. - open class feedback.
- In Ex. 2c ss : tell ss to read the sentences . check that they understand how they will answer the Ex. e.g which item is he/she talking about in the 1st sentence? can it be a tablet , a computer, or smartphone?. there is more than one answer. - let them work in pairs. - open class feedback
In groups,ss write their own sentences about the technology items in 2a ,using the sentences in Ex. 2c as a model. Monitor and help with vocab if necessary. ss read each other sentences and try to guess what they are talking about.
