Description

In this lesson , students learn about the flavors of food and ingredients of some dishes from different countries. the lesson starts with a discussion about food. this is followed by reading text about some food from different countries. finally , there is some controlled practice then free practice though some written activities.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask students about different flavors of food and which dishes do they like .

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Reading a text about the ingredients of some common dishes from different countries .

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ask students to underline every word that focus on flavors of food .

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, pronunciation and form of the target language

present the new vocabulary : crunchy , creamy , chilly , raw and bitter by clarifying the meaning of each word , pronounce them , then write the form on the whiteboard.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ask students to say the country of each dish that they have read in the text .Elicit the answers and write it on the board.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Use projector to display some slices about foods and ask students about the ingredients and flavors of each dish .

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Make a short competition between students about healthy and unhealthy foods and their preferences .
