Description

This lesson will focus on vocabulary which we often use when we contact people. Students will engage in testing vocabulary vocabulary tasks to arouse their interests towards the topic. Then, they will be engaged in doing pre-teaching vocabulary tasks such as matching the verb with the appropriate words. Surely, they will be provided clear definitions in case they hesitate or have no idea to motivate them before being given the opportunity to fill the gaps with the words appropriate. There will then be productive tasks: speaking and writing exercises to encourage students to draw together their learning from this lesson.

Main Aims

  • To raise students` awareness of phrasal verbs that are used in contacting in the context of Contacting people

Subsidiary Aims

  • For students to write their short story about when they are abroad, how they communicate with others using vocabulary from the lesson

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will read a short story about when she is abroad, how she communicates with her parents and friends. The text will include the new vocabulary. Ss will have to take notes which words they do not know or hear first time. Some answers will be elicited.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

T will write some part of the words on the board like ....hold of, ...someone a call,.... someone a message. Ss will need to find the beginning parts of these phrases. They will be given the set of words they will use.

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Teacher will check the answers and give feedback and proper answers. T will give definitions and use some visual aids in order for Ss to visualize and remember the words easily.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Students will be a task that they will need to choose the correct words in the conversation. They will compare their answers in pairs and then T will check and give her feedback

Semi controlled practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with semi controlled practice of the target language and to ensure students use new vocabulary

Students will be divided into two groups and will be given a writing task on the topic of "Invitation to our anniversary" They will have to write an invitation for one of their old friends whom they have not seen him or her for a long time. They will need to use as many learnt words as possible.

Controlled practice • To get Ss to use the learnt vocabulary in real context and to know their comprehension

Ss will be given a task which they will be supposed to fill in the gaps with the correct form of the verbs. Ss will select students randomly and check their answers Then, students will work in pairs and ask each other the questions taking from the task they have already done.
