Description

In this lesson,students learn about some vocabulary related to Geography. The lesson starts with watching a video of some places then make a discussion about them. This is followed by reading the passage and listening to another. Finally there are some controlled and free practice.

Main Aims

  • -To provide clarification of vocabulary related to geography.
  • -Use a lexical set of geography words correctly.

Subsidiary Aims

  • -Understand a conversation in which people talk about their holidays plans.
  • -Read and understand a text about holidays.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

write the word 'Holidays' on the side of the board and the word 'Geography' on the other side, then ask the students about their holidays and which geographic place do they prefer to spend their holidays?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

-Watching a video of different places around the world, then ask the students to say their names if they recognize any. -Let the students watch the video again picture by picture this time. Ask them to name each one of them and say what they know about.

Planning (6-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to plan students' reports

Ask the students to choose a picture they have taken, which they are happy to share with the class and tell them to talk about their pictures.They should talk about the place and what were they doing?

Task (3-5 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Let the students read the text then ask them quick questions.

Report (6-8 minutes) • To allow students to report on how they did the task and how it went

- Listen to a conversation about holidays plans. -Let the students work in pairs to ask and answer questions about the new vocabularies.

Language Analysis (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

- Stick the pictures of the new vocabularies on the board, ask the students to name them. -Make sure that they know these words meanings well by asking questions for each. -Tell them to repeat the correct pronunciation after me several times. -Write the spelling of each word beneath it and let the students read them.

Language Practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

Controlled practice: Give on word, tell the students the definition or some information about the place and they should identify the word. Stick flash cards of the new vocabularies pictures and spelling on the board , then tell the students to match between them. Si mi controlled practice: Show the students the flashcards ,tell them to memorize them well,then hid the cards and ask the students individually, to name five cards. Free practice: Ask the students to choose one place and write ten sentences about it.
