Description

In this lesson ,students learn about the vocabulary of IT collocations based on a reading text as an Online Hotline IT Advice. The lesson starts with a discussion about a picture showing people using smartphones and followed by a reading .At the end there are some controlled and free practices.

Materials

Abc Cambridge English Empower Elementary book ,smartphones,tablets and worksheets

Main Aims

  • to get the students gain full understanding of the new vocabulary and practice using it

Subsidiary Aims

  • to provide speaking practice through a role play in the context of explaning devices usage in modern daily life

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

to revise some vocabulary words in Unit 7 about computers related to my actual lesson to help students link them to the new knowledge. before reading the text,choose some key vocabulary words and ask students what the text is going to be about.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Ask students what people use smartphones and tablets for. Ask Ss read the post material p 102 .

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Write some words in the board and add some pictures form pairs in the class and let students guess the meaning of words you have written and link them to the pictures

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Once the pairs have finished ask several students to share definitions for each of the term.log on,surf the web,make a call,check email,visit website. correct them then read each of the words and tell the students definitions. present the supplement information with the use of a pc and a digital projector so that students can see the demonstration alive. give examples in the morning ,Ahmed log on to his office computer. He checks his email and makes some calls. In the evening he surfs the web and visits some websites.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ask the students to answer exercise a on p103. one students have responded take a few student responses for each word, give feedback and correct any misuse of the words

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ask students to work in pars and match the words in exercise b p103 to their definitions. call on a few students to volunteer response and share definitions for each word. repeat this process for all the words.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

give each student worksheets and tell students to first write in whether or not each given sentence defines the meaning of the word writing either yes or no . Once all the students have completed the worksheets , collect them go over each of the words explaining the correct responses for each item.
