Description

In this lesson, students learn about sports through labelled pictures and some examples based on verbs and nouns related to sports. The lesson starts with speaking about one's favourite sport provided by some students. This is followed by reading some names of sports through labelled pictures and some examples pointing out some verbs and nouns used to speak about sports. Finally there's a controlled practice through giving sentences about sports mentioned in the lesson via a role-play speaking activity.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask students about their favourite sports and how they practise and enjoy them.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

- Students read the names of the sports below from the labelled pictures. - Students work in pairs to discuss: Which sport is the most famous in the world?Why? How can we enjoy practising sports? - Students find words in Ex 1 c that mean the following: 1) very good 2) very bad 3) very hard, to start the next stage (the clarification)

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

-Showing the ss a video about some people speaking about their favourite sports - Ask ss to look at the pictures in their book to read the names of the mentioned sports and ask them if they know the meaning of each sport. Then try to elicit the meanings of the words and using the white board to clarify the sports and words which are related to them (extreme\ workout\points\ training\ have a go\ miss) to tell them that the words (workout and training) have the same meaning but different in purpose and the word "workout" means to pracise for yourself and by yourself, but the word " training" means to be prepared for a competition. So, some words have the same meaning but used for different purposes. Let's see how ( the word "workout" means to pracise for yourself and by yourself, but the word " training" means to be prepared for a competition\ Ex 1 : The coach trains me every day to get ready for the race. Ex 2 : I go to the gym every day to workout. - Using the WB, write "I workout every day to take part in the race" and ask ss to correct it. - Elicit the meaning of " extreme\ workout\ points\ miss\ have a go\ training\ dangerous\diving\ wrestling\ surfing" using pictures,CCQs

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

- Ask ss, in groups, to speak about famous sports all over the world and how they can enjoy these sports. - Hold a free discussion about sports at all.
