Functional language of advice

Description

In this lesson students will learn how to ask for advice, how to give advice and how to respond it. In 2 different context it will be worked on and they will produce their own sentences. Meaning and form both are going to be clarified and practiced .

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of language used for giving advice , asking for advice, giving warning and responding to advice or warning in the context of Real world

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in different pair works in the context of Real world and dangers that we may come across in environment

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show students some pictures and ask for guiding me which one to travel why or why not, they have to answer it in pairs and tell me the answers and getting feedback.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

they will listen to an audio of the book and I will give them HO. the target language is not written which they have to recognize and fill in HO according to the context.

Language Analysis (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

examples and clarification will be submitted with some CCQs which are after elicitation from the context , we will drill it together and work on stress of sentences as well. how to use them is elicited from listening.

Planning (6-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

HO will be given and there is a conversation which they have use functional langue to fill them in. Besides, they check in pairs and I will give feedback to the answers.

Language Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

Ss will be given the flags of different countries. (each S will be given the flag of one country. Then they stand up and make two circles (an inner circle and an outer circle). Ss in the inner circle stand face out and the Ss in the outer circle stand face in. Then Ss who are standing in front of each other will ask for advice, give advice, give warning and respond to the advices of their partner. After one minute each pair of Ss will change their papers and Ss in the outer circle move to the right side towards the other S. This continues several times. Then T provides Ss with feedback on their advices and warnings.
