Description

In this lesson, learners will be introduced to or review food items. Then they will read a text in which they will know more about restaurants and different types of food. They will think about food groups and how to cook recipes , and what are their food programs and restaurants . Finally they will look at language for recipes and even describe some recipes in class!

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of food items and cooking verbs in the context of food

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed and gist reading practice using a text about World Markets in the context of food

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

• Remind ss with the previous lesson which was about Daily life and connect it with today's lesson which is about ( eating with your family) by showing them a case could happen in their day through two pictures of hungry boy and another one of family eating at restaurant to guess the lesson Ask them about their favorite fruits and food

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Tell them how I cooked yesterday while showing them the flashcards prepared to illustrate the ingredients or food items and how I cooked them

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

answer EX:A & B...P.41 /Cambridge English Empower Elementary SB to (Underline the different word Why is it different?) after matching the picture with the word

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Ss Answer Question N.2 L.a&b which elicit how to convert verbs of cooking to be adjectives EX:bake >>baked Elicit the meaning of (beans - lemons - chicken-mushrooms - onions -lamb - pears - steak- carrots - grapes) using pictures, CCQs. then ask them how each one could be cooked Ss answer Question L.c and identify how each word's vowel pronounced steak • bean • pear >> /iː/ or /eɪ/ Ss answer Question N.5 P.45 /Cambridge Empower A1

Controlled Practice (5-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss answer a question I have taken from ESL site in which their understanding of each vocabularies is tested

Semi-Controlled Practice (7-9 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

I instruct them to ask each other "Are you a good cook? & Is there any difficult food you can cook and how ? Using the words tackled + (first, after that, next, then, finally) Asking ICQs

Free Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

open class practice and act up as if I'm a waitress and they have to order food for starter and for the main course
