Description

In the lesson, students practise speaking fluency on the topic of technologies. This is a skills-integrated lesson. The lesson focuses on speaking for fluency and presenting a poster as well as listening for details and one lays the groundwork for the other. The lesson starts with a short video about presentation skills and continues with another speaking activity, where students list the most important things for their presentation. They agree with the sequence of presenting and share responsibilities. Then students practice in pairs, or small groups their poster presentation. Students in groups or pairs present their posters. The lesson ends with a self-evaluation activity. Students reflect on their work.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a poster design and presentation in the context of describing a chosen technology.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide development of communication skills by speaking clearly; giving oral reports to small and large groups; expressing ideas clearly and logically; stating opinions.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (10-15 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The lesson starts with a short video about presentation skills and continues with another speaking activity, where students list the most important things for their presentation. After students watch the video, together with a teacher, they list the crucial steps for making a good presentation.

Highlighting (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Students in small groups or pairs agree with the sequence of presenting and share responsibilities.

Semi-Controlled Practice (10-17 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Students start to practice in pairs, or small groups their poster presentation using the critical steps of presentation check-list.

Free Practice (19-25 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Then students in groups or pairs present their posters.

Feedback and Self-evaluation (5-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production ,use of language, presentation, communication skills and collaborative work

Students fill in the self-evaluation list, this helps students to take control of their own learning and assessment.
