in this lesson, ss will be able to talk about their family and describe them to their classmates.

Materials

  • To provide gist, specific information and detailed listening practice using an audio

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice about family

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T starts the class by showing some pictures and explains that these are my family and ask ss to explain pictures and give some information about pictures to elicit words that are related to the topic. ICQ= are you going to write?(no)

Pre-Reading/Listening (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T asks ss to look at the pictures in part 4 and talk about them with their partner. ICQ= are you going to write?(no) are you going to do it alone or in pairs?(pairs)

While-Listening #1 (20-25 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T asks ss to read the question (a) for 30 seconds and then plays the audio and ss should answer the questions in part (a). in this stage T wants them to just answer the question instead of listening carefully for details. after answering questions in gist listening part t tells them to check their answers in pairs. after having some class feedback, T asks them to read question in part (b) for 30 seconds and then this time listen to the audio carefully and take notes and answer question about their names, jobs, etc to work on their detailed listening skill. after answering T asks ss to say the answers to the class by asking them to write the answers on the board. ICQ for gist part= are you going to listen carefully?(no) are you going to speak or listen?(listen) do you have one minute? (no, 30 seconds) are you going to do it alone or in groups? (first alone then check-in groups) ICQ for detailed listening= are you going to listen carefully?(yes) are you going to take notes?(yes) alone or in pairs?( first alone and then in pairs for checking)

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T makes groups of 2 and asks them to answer part (c). ss should show pictures of their family members and talk about them in pairs. then after taking about them they should come to the board and show the pictures of their family members and talk about it for a minute.
