In this lesson students will practise listening skill in the context of Concert. In the pronunciation part they will also practise ordinal numbers and dates.

Main Aims

  • To practice listening related to concerts and pronunciation of ordina numbers and date.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice ordering event tickets on the phone

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher shows students picture of celebrities who have been to Istanbul recently asks them if they been to any of the concerts, feedback

Test #1 (3-5 minutes) • Test students knowledge on the pronunciation

Students are asked to imagine that they are going to stay in London for about 4 months and thay have chance to go to twon concerts. T gives them a list of concerts which taking place in The Metropolitan Hall, asks them to choose two in peers, feedback If they have problem with ordinal numbers, teacher goes to pronunciation section and drills the ordinal numbers.

Teach (4-5 minutes) • to help students learn ordinal numbers

Teacher asks students to fill in the gaps in the pronunciation part 2 students listen and check their answers

Test #2 (4-4 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Teacher asks students to write down four dates that are important for them. Students in peers swap their paper and tell each other why the dates are important.Teacher monitors and notes if there is any mistake(s) and corrects them after the activity.

Pre teaching vocabulary for the listening. (5-5 minutes) • to clarify the meaning and pronuntiation.

Students fill the gaps in exercise Listening 1, compare answers and feedback.Teacher asks CCQs and drills the pronunciation.

Listening1 (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

Students listen to four people phoning the box office of a concert hall and complete the information and check their answers in peers.

While Listening #2 (6-7 minutes) • Students listen in details

Students listen to recording to check thier answers,in chunks and check thier answers.

Post-Reading/Listening (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with restricted practise

Students in peers match the halves of the sentences and feed back. Teacher asks students to read the sentences again and try to remember them. Students sit back to back, A works at the box office and B chooses a show to go to from the concert list of Metropolitan Hall and phones the box office to book ticket(s)

Freer activity (10-11 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

As a back-up activity, if there is enough time left, students go through questions in the speaking part, talk to each other about a concert they have been to.T monitors and notes the mistakes, writes them on the board and asks other students to correct.
