Procedure

Intro / Warmer (1-2 minutes) • To set the context of airports

WB: Istanbul ------> New York. "How?" By Plane. "Where do I get on the plane? what Place?" Airport.

Vocabulary Introduction / Review (4-5 minutes) • To introduce / review vocabulary for the lesson

Terminal Bag / Luggage Going to the Toilet Talking on the phone Talking together Doing an interview Make a film Hitchcock - "Who is Atıf Yılmaz?" "Is he an actor?" No. He is a director. "Who is a famous director who directed hollywood film Psycho?" Alfred Hitchcock. Terminal: Is the terminal part of the airport? Yes Talking together: Are they using the phone? No. Are they in the same room? Yes. Make a film: Is a film for TV or cinema? Cinema. Does it have actors? Yes. Doing a TV interview : Is an interview for the cinema? No, TV Are the people actors or not? No.

Drilling (2-2 minutes) • To practice the pronunciation of vocabulary

Exercise 1 Demo (1-2 minutes) • To demonstrate the procedure for Exercise 1

Have a student come to the front of the class. Instruct student to listen, and point. Use the examples "There is a plane" "There is a police man". Ask student to identify something.

Exercise 1 - Listening for detail / Speaking for fluency (4-5 minutes) • To get students to listen for detail and speak for fluency using the vocabulary

One student describes something they see in the photo, the other student listens and identifies it.

Exercise 2, 3 Context (1-2 minutes) • To set the context of conversations overheard in an airport

Sit on a chair in the middle of the room. "Where am I?" In the airport. Mime that I am listening to other people talking, "What am I doing?" Listening. "What are the people talking about?" Listen, and find out.

Exercise 2 - Listening for gist (2-3 minutes) • To practice listening for gist in the context of airport conversations

Give students listening HO. Instruct students that they will listen to 5 conversations. They need to guess who is having each conversation. After listening, students check answers in pairs.

Exercise 3 - Listening for Specific Information (7-9 minutes) • To practice listening for specific information in the context of airport conversations

Instruct students to read the questions on the HO and listen to answer them. "Read questions" "2 minutes" "Listen for answers" "Check answers in pairs"

Listening Answer Check (2-3 minutes) • To check answers using scan reading / reading for specific information

Instruct students to "Read tape script, check answers"

Exercise 4 - Structured Speaking Practice (4-5 minutes) • To practice speaking for accuracy using a scripted dialogue

Instruct students to "choose one conversation" "Practice with your partner" Do a demonstration, drill if necessary. Switch partners to extend activity and give more practice.

Speaking Error Correction (2-2 minutes) • To correct mistakes that students made while speaking.

Correct any mistakes with drilling

Final Exercise Pre-Teach / Drilling (3-3 minutes) • To pre-teach vocabulary that is necessary for the final listening exercise

Final Exercise - Listening for Specific Information (8-10 minutes) • To practic listening for specific information

Instruct students to "Listen" "Write the correct words." Listen once, check answers in pairs. Listen again.
