Main Aims

  • To practice adverbs of frequency in the context of television and films

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice writing skills by preparing questions
  • To practice speaking by discussing of television and films

Procedure

Activity: Matching Sentences (10 minutes) • Activate the Ss knowledge on TL through an activity and to "measure" how well they know the TL

The Ss will do a matching activity 1 from the coursebook, in which they will match 5 different sentences about adverbs of frequency (always, often, sometimes, not often and never) with the correct sentences. The correct answers will be checked as a WC.

Grammar: Model sentences (Meaning) (5 minutes) • To reinforce the previously learnt and also introduce possibly new adverbs

The T will write 3 model sentences on the board: 1) They are (always) late. 2) I don't (not often) watch the news. 3) I (never) watch comedy programmes. The adverbs T will elicit from the Ss. T introduces the grammatical rules: subject + adverb + verb (usual order) subject + verb + adverb (with be)

Activity: Adverbs of frequency on a scale (Form) (7 minutes) • To reinforce the Ss understanding on adverbs by putting them on a "scale" for clarification

The T will divide the Ss in to 2 or 3 groups (depends on the amount of Ss present) and give them adverbs on paperslips. In a group the Ss will discuss and decide where the adverbs go on a "scale". The Ss will go to WB and put them in a correct order in their opinion and the correct order will be checked as a WC.

Activity: Gap-fill (8 minutes) • The reinforce the previously learn through practice

The Ss will do a gap-fill individually. The sentences are: 1) I (always) watch the news. 2) I (never) watch sports. 3) I (often) watch documentaries. 4) I (sometimes) watch horror films. 5) I don't (often) watch TV. T will give the answers to the Ss as a handout.

Writing: Preparing context related questions (5 minutes) • The practice writing sentences by using adverbs of frequency

The Ss will each write 3 questions related to television and film habits by using TL (for example: Do you often watch documentaries?)

Speaking: Asking the prepared questions from other Ss (5 minutes) • To practice the Ss speaking skills in TL

The Ss will go around the classroom and ask each other questions, which they prepared in the previous stage.

Feedback: Error correction (5 minutes) • To correct possible errors in TL

The T will do error correction on the WB with incorrect sentences that the Ss have made during the lesson. If they haven't made any the T has ready-made (assumed errors) that the WC will try to correct together. Ready-made sentences: 1) I don't never watch the news. 2) I don't not often watch the documentaries. 3) I sometimes go to school.
