Description

In this lesson they will learn how to make questions with 'does' and short answers of it, in addition to 'wh' questions (where, what and who). They will also learn about the pronunciation and intonation of these sentences. The focus is also on communication using the Target Language.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of 'Wh' questions and yes/no questions for third person singular, using 'does' in the context of interests

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a 'Wh' questions and yes/no questions for third person singular, using 'does' in the context of interests

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss will be presented with a conversation with which the Target Language is being elicited.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Ss will be given handout 1 and fill the gaps according to what they see in the conversation. Then teacher checks the answers and highlights the grammatical points.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The grammar is highlighted and the form is being drilled

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

To Clarify the concept (CCQ), T shows Ss different categories (: what, where, who, does) Then T gives Ss some cut outs and asks Ss to stick them i the right place under the right category.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To practice the Target Language

Ss will be given some sentences that are not in order. They should put the sentences in order.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss will be given a handout in which they see different people doing different things. They ask each other what people in the pictures are doing, where they are going, for example, or they ask yes/no questions using 'does' for asking question about the third person singular. finally T gives feedback and ends the session.
