Subsidiary Aims

  • To apply the causative passive construction in speaking.

Procedure

Warmer/ Lead in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and stimulate students schemata preparing them to the next step.

After greeting all the students, I show them a picture of wedding. I ask students about what it consists of, how so far they like it and what the best they liked more. also I ask to talk in pairs about what we need to prepare for attending such occasion. Then , I discuss their ideas.

Eliciting the causative passive construction. (10-15 minutes) • To elicit the meaning of "had something done.".

I tell the students a very short story " I was invited to one of my friend's wedding last year. He invited me just one day before his wedding so in fact I hadn't enough time to prepare myself. I had some problems .I had a broken down car" I show them a picture of a broken car asking them where you expect me to go to prepare it . Students will say to the mechanic" I show them a picture of a mechanic repairing the car and elicit the expression" I had my car repaired" Next, I ask students CQs like" Did I repair the car myself? No", "Did the mechanic repair the car? Yes.And so on with the same steps I give them other examples for other problems like " long hair, toothache ,bad shoes..".

Forming causative passive construction. (8-10 minutes) • To enable students to form causative passive construction through incomplete sentences.

I give each pair of students a slip pf paper having an incomplete sentence asking them to work together to form a correct sentence .Then, I check their answers and ask them CQs.

More speaking practice about future planning. (10-15 minutes) • To make students stand, move and walk to make a circle " as a kind of refreshment" and practice more speaking using the target language expressing another aspect of tense"future".

I ask all students to stand up and make a circle. Then, I tell them next week we are going to go to a birthday party. So, I ask them " What will we need to do?". I start saying " I will have my hair cut, and you throwing the squeaky frog to a student to tell what will he need to do.and so on till each student practice more speaking in the target language.

Working out exercise 6 page 81 (10-12 minutes) • To use causative passive construction in longer sentences.

I instruct students that they will have a sheet of paper having some questions about what the best place they have their things done. I direct them to base their discussion on the town they are in now.I check their answers using CQs.

Working out exercise 5 page 81 if there is enough time. (6-8 minutes) • To arrange the sentences and know how to express things he do himself and things someone do it for him.

I instruct the students that they will have a sheet of paper having some disordered sentences and they will write them in the correct order " in pairs " . Then, each student will rewrite the sentence so that they are true for him.
