Vocabulary - "Activities"
Elementary, A2 level

Description

In this lesson, students will practice their "activity" vocabulary by matching words with pictures. They will also practice speaking and conversation in English with each other, using questions. Students will also get to test their vocabulary by playing a game.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. Put up print outs of activities 2. Ask students to label pictures 3. Outline today's topic and give out handouts

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

EXERCISE 1 1. Ask students to look at pictures on handout (write "I like ... " on board) 2. Ask students to work individually to match vocab with pictures 3. Ask them to compare in pairs 4. Define "spending time"

Practice using vocab in speech (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

1. Label students "a" and "b" 2. Using the activities on the board, students work in pairs to ask each other "Do you like ..." and answer "Yes, I like ..." or "No, I don't like ..." 3. Students swap over and ask the other person if they like the activities 4. Get each student to report what the other likes doing to the class

Consolidating and practicing (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to plan students' reports

1. Put pictures up on the board with numbers and ask students to work in pairs to number the activities on handout 2 2. Check as a class MINGLE 3. Ask students to stand up and find someone who likes/doesn't like activities on handout 2 (3 mins) 4. Ask each student "who likes ...?"

Language Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

GAME 1. Hand out cards with the name of an activity. Make sure students don't show their partner 2. Students with cards draw and their partner guesses 3. Demonstrate 4. Students swap over
