Description

In this lesson, the students learn about positive characteristics in the context of describing famous characters. the lesson starts with photos of famous characters as a lead-in, followed by matching activity, then the teaching stage, after that test 2 will be group work and finally the production stage.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Set up: The teacher sticks on the board some photos of famous characters. The teacher starts asking the students if they know what are these characters doing in their lives and asks them to try to describe their personalities.

Test 1 (6-9 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

The teacher gives the students HO1 which is matching activity contains the adjectives from the target language and meanings and asks them to match each adjective with the right meaning. After they finished the teacher asks them to check with a partner. Then the teacher gives them feedback (the answers).

Teach (10-12 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

In this stage, the teacher shows the students the adjectives on the board using the projector and starts discussing with them this type of adjectives and clarifies that they are personal adjectives, not physical adjectives. Then the T starts drilling the TL.

Test 2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

1-The teacher shows the students the second HO and tell them that they are going to identify which adjectives are suitable for each job. ICQ: are you going to add any characteristics? The T demonstrates the first one with them then gives them the HO. 2- After they finished the teacher asks them to discuss with a partner telling her why did you choose these adjectives for each job.

Production / controlled (9-11 minutes) • To make sure the students understand the meaning of positive characteristics.

The teacher divides them into two groups and shows them two sheets with seven qualities, and asks each group to think which role is fitting with every quality. Then after they finished they exchange sheets and comment on the other group's opinion if they agree with them or not.

Production / freer (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In this stage, the teacher tells the students to think about someone they know or a famous person who has the characteristics and tell the rest of the group about him or her. the T gives them a minute to be prepared. Then the teacher asks them to start and also tell the rest of the group which characteristic do you most admire in others and which are unimportant to you. feedback
