Description

In this lesson, Ss will practice writing CVs. The lesson starts with a discussion about jobs. Then, Ss will read a job advertisement. After that, Ss will learn some useful vocabs which will be used in the productive task. Then, Ss will learn areas related to the style of writing CVs. Finally, Ss will write their own CVs.

Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a C.V in the context of applying for a job.

  • To provide clarification and practice of vocabulary used in writing C.V in the context of applying for a job.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (7-9 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Set the Task. I will welcome Ss and open a free discussion asking them the following questions "What's your dream job and why?" "Do you prefer to work part-time or full -time and why?" "What do you like/dislike most about your current job?" "What do people do to find jobs?" I will show Ss a photo of Birgitte, tell them that she is a student and ask Ss the following question "What does she study?"- Fashion. I will tell them that she is looking for a part-time job. She was reading the newspaper and found this ad. I will chest the advertisement. I will ask the students to read quickly and answer the following questions. Is it part-time? "Is it suitable for her?" "Which days would she have to work?" I will ask the following ICQ "Are you going to read quickly or word by word?" Quickly. How many questions are you going to answer? -3 Do the task. I will give the ad to Ss and monitor their progress. Pair check. Ss to check in pairs. Feedback. I will give oral feedback.

exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text

Set the Task. I will use the previous task to refer that the Job is suitable for Birgitte. Now, She is applying for the job. I will ask the following question. "What will she send?" -a C.V will ask this question "What are some of the topics she should include in the C.V?". Do the task. I will give them some time to write down their answers. Pair check. I will ask them to check their ideas in pairs. Feedback. I will give them some of the topics in the C.V and ask them," what other topics can we include? Finally, I will give them Brigitte's c.v and ask them to tick the topics she included in her C.V. I will ask the following ICQ "Are we going to read quickly or word by word? -quickly. I will ask them to check in pairs before giving feedback.

Genre analysis (Useful language) (8-10 minutes) • To develop ss writing skill by drawing their attention to features of the genre (content and language)

Set the task. I will ask Ss to read the C.V quickly and find words or phrases that mean the sentences in exercise 4. I will demonstrate the first one, by saying "Look for the first one." to check they are Scanning and not reading for details. Do the task. I will monitor the Ss progress and make sure they are scanning. Pair check. I will ask Ss to check their answers in pairs. Feedback. I will give oral feedback. Task 2. Set the task. I will write two sentences on the board. I am a final year student in Fashion design. Final year student in Fashion design. and ask Ss. which one of these two sentences did you find in the text.- Final year student. I will elicit from Ss that we don't include unnecessary words in writing the C.V. I will encourage them to find other sentences with that case. Do the task. Ss will look for sentences. Pair check. Ss will check their answers in pairs. Feedback. I will give oral feedback.

Productive Task. (19-21 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Set the task. I ask Ss to write their own CVs using the heading in Brigitte's C.V to apply for the dream job they have written down in the lead-in. Do the task. I will monitor Ss's progress. Pair check. I will show Ss the marking codes "G- Grammar", "S, Spelling" "V, verb" "Wo, word order," Pun, punctuatiuon" I will ask Ss to stick the C.V to the H.R managers "their pair's" wall. The H.R will correct the mistakes by underlining them and write approved or refused on the C.V. I will monitor to check Ss' mistakes and monitor their progress.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

I will give feedback on the mistakes I noticed and the pairs don't underline. I will also correct the mistakes in speaking if there are any.
