Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in the topic of their future plans using the future conjunctions.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1-Tell the ss that I will share something very personal with them. 2-Show them my notebook and what I have written in it; it's about my future plans. 3-Try to use some of the future conjunctions like as soon as and when in talking. 4-Ask them to talk about their job future plans in pairs then nominate some ss to tell us about the future plans of their partners.

Exposure (5-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text

1-Pre-teach the vocabulary of the reading task; plumber, solicitor, resign and run (a hotel). 2-Tell them that they are going to read some passages about different persons. 3-Chest the quotes and ask them to match it with the passages. 4-Give an O/C feedback to check their answers.

Clarification (9-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

1-Tell them about the questions in HO1 then answer the first questions with them. 2-Ask them to answer these questions individually 3-While they're checking their answer, draw the timeline of each conjunction on the board. 4-After finishing, ask them to check their answers in pairs. 5-Give them the answer key. 6-Now, ask them about the timelines on the board and try to elicit the rule from them.

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

1-Chest HO2 and ask ss to answer these 6 questions and make them true for themselves. 2-Monitor while they're answering to check if they are using the correct tense. 3-Nominate some ss to say one sentence and ask the st who answered to name another one and so on.

Freer Practice (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

1-Switch pairs by giving them different letters like A, B and C and ask each letter to sit together. 2-Ask them to discuss their sentences with their partners and demo them the activity by having the conversation with one of the ss. 3-Give an O/C feedback by nominating ss to tell us about their partners.
