Description

In this lesson,students learn about using collocations through different exercises.The lesson starts by trying to find out if students are aware of collocatios[words which occure together;why we say 'make amistake' and not 'do a mistake'.This is followed by an exercise to tick if phrases A and B have the same meaning and to explain the difference if they aren't the same.Finally, there will be some freer practice through putting students into pairs of A and B and have them ask and answer the questions.

Main Aims

  • To provide the learners with clarification and practice to use collocations with take.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in conversation and discussion using collocation with take.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To create the need for the target language.

Start the class with a game. I divide the class into two groups .Group A takes yellow stick notes .group B takes green stick notes.Each note has half of the collocation .Ask each student to find the half that completes his or hers. Write an example on the board and ask them why we say 'make a mistake' and not 'do a mistake' Clarify the meaning and importance of using collocations.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Give the ss the table with A and B phrases and have them work in pairs to discuss which mean the same and which are different. If they don't know some meanings,tell them it's ok because i'll go through them after. I'll be able to see what they know.

Language Clarification (3-5 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Go through the answers to previous exercise . clarify meaning of problem phrases ,form and any pronunciation issues.

Freer practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Put students into pairs of A and B and have them ask and answer questions. ask each one to take a minute to go through his or her handout to check understanding. Then ask them to take turns with student B asking and answering questions. Ask them to take notes about his or her partener
