Description

In this lesson, Ss learn about lexical items related to family and friends. The lesson starts with a GTKY activity as it's the teacher's first session with that group. Then, there's the lead-in activity which is followed by the first test. Next, the teacher teaches some lexical items in the lesson. Finally, the teacher tests the Ss again with a freer practice.

Procedure

GTKY (5-7 minutes) • To get to know my Ss

Task name "Two Truths and a lie" I will write 3 sentences on the board which are "I was shot in the army- I stayed in the airport for two days- I used to be an actor for 2 years." I will ask Ss to ask me 3 W/h on each sentence and decide which one is the lie. I will ask ICQ question "Are you going to ask me Yes/No questions or W/h questions?" W/H questions "How many questions are you going to ask on each sentence?"- 3 After they guess, I will ask them to work in pairs and repeat the task. I will check their progress. I will give oral feedback.

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will write my name on the board in a circle and make four arrows out of the circles. under these arrows, I will write four names of people in my life "Edward, Mr. Ryan. Gergis. Abanoub" I will ask the Ss to guess the relationship between me and those people using Yes/No questions. I will elicit the answers from Ss. I will ask the Ss to make the same circle in pairs and guess the answers in pairs. using Yes/No questions. I will ask the following ICQ "Are we going to ask Yes/No quesions or W/H questions?" Yes/No quesions. I will monitor their progress and give oral feed.

Test #1 (7-9 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

I will set the task by asking Ss to work alone and try to put the words in the right category. I will refer to the first one which is already done "aunt". I will ask the Ss to check in pairs. I will give written feedback. I will ask the Ss to work in pairs and add more words to each category. I will give oral feedback.

Teach (10-15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

I will show some pictures of words in the first test and elicit the words from the Ss. I will drill the words and write the form on the board showing the stress. The words are "stepmom. mother-in-law. colleague. classmate. flatmate. headteacher. acquaintance. stranger. niece"

Controlled practice (5-7 minutes) • to check the students' understanding of the lesson

I will give the Ss HO2. I will ask them to Complete the sentences with the words in the table. I will ask Ss to check in pairs. I will give oral feedback.

Test #3 (7-9 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

I will ask the Ss to listen to the audio and write the answers in any shape below. I will ask the following Icq "Are you going to choose any shape or a specific shape?"- any shape. "Are you going to write the question or answer?"- The answer. I will demonstrate the first one. I will pause for two seconds after every question. I will play the audio one more time if needed.

Free practice (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will ask the Ss to work in pairs, exchange Handouts and ask about the meaning of the words and numbers in the shapes using W/H questions. I will ask the following ICQ "are we going to ask Yes/no questions or W/h questions? " Ss will work in pairs. I will monitor their progress. I will give oral feedback, correct their mistakes and praise the good uses of language.

extra activity (optional) (5-9 minutes) • to practice the target language in a fun way

I will divide the Ss into two teams and tell them that we are going to play a game called "Taboo" I will tell them that one of the Ss will sit on a chair with his back facing the board. The other group will write a word on the board. the first team must explain with the word without saying the word. I will give them some time to choose 3 words related to people and places in pairs before starting the game. I will monitor their understanding.
