In this lesson we will focus on the term body language. I will ask Ss what do they associate when they hear the term body language. After defining it, I will show Ss a picture painted by Edward Hopper and we will try to describe the womans body language on the painting, followed up by an exercise to elicit the vocabulary for the reading.We will do a jigsaw reading dealing with interpretations of gestures.Ss should show these gesture, which will be a feedback for their understanding of the text.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking in the context of body language


Lead in (3-5 minutes) • To set the context for the TL

I will ask Ss what do they associate with the term body language. After that i will project a painting of Hopper. Ss should share they thoughts about it. Guessing womans feelings according to her body language.

Elicinting TL (5-8 minutes) • To activate Ss schemata

I will give Ss a HO with certain states of feelings. Ss should guess in pairs the body language according to the feelings.WC FB

Matching exercise (3-5 minutes) • Students can check their guesses

I will give Ss images showing different gesture.Ss should match the gestures with the feelings. Compare answers with their partners and then WC FB.

Vocabulary (5-7 minutes) • Ss guess the meaning of the vocabulary

I will give Ss a HO with the vocabulary with the phonetics which is necessary for the following reading.Ss should try to guess the meaning with their partners. I will mime the words and Ss should try to guess which vocabulary it is.I will drill the words and try to elicit their meaning if Ss can not guess which word I mean.

Jigsaw reading (10-12 minutes) • To make Ss parctice the vocabulary and understanding

I will divide Ss in As and Bs.They should read the text and show each other the gestures which expresses a certain feeling. After that WC FB. Ask Ss to show the gestures in class and give examples.

Post reading practice (5-8 minutes) • To produce the TL

I will ask students what they think about Erdogans, Guls or Adolph Hitlers gestures.If they use them deliberately or not. First in PW then WC
