Description

In this lesson students will learn vocabulary related to hotel's location, facilities,rooms, and room facilities through guided discovery. It will go on with some vocabulary practice activities and the lesson will end with a speaking activity where students will talk about hotel facilities and their hotel experiences.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T asks ' Did you go on holiday this summer?' Where did you go?' 'Where did you stay?' Where do you want to stay when you go on holiday? Teacher elicits some accomodation ideas( hostel, tent, motel, summer house, hotel) T says: 'Last summer, we stayed in a hotel in Antalya, Alanya. It is a four-star hotel. We liked it.' T shows the photos of the hotel. T says: ' These are the photos of the hotel. And you see a short description of it. Read it and look at the photos. T instructs: ' Work in pairs. Discuss with your pairs. 'Do you like the hotel? What do you like about it ? Would you like to stay there? Why/ Why not?'

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T changes the pairs for this activity with numbering technique. T instructs the students: 'Work in pairs. Answer the questions.' T gives the handout for the activity. To check the instruction: ' What is the first qustion? Second? Third?' ' Will you work alone ?' After sts do the activity, T gives WCFB and learn their ideas.

Highlighting (5-7 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T asks sts to lok at the internet booking form in Exercise 2. T says: ' This is a booking form for hotels. You fill in this form, Google finds a lot of hotels.' To check what she says ' Nihat, do you want to stay near the sea? 'Yes' ' So, do you choose that option ? 'Yes' 'After you choose, does google find you city center or seaside hotels? 'seaside hotels' T instructs: ' Look at exercise 2. Work in pairs. Complete the form with words from the box.' ICQ: What words are there in the box? What will you do with them? After sts complete it, T shows the answer key on board and let them compare.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

To present the meaning of vocabulary, T distrubutes a guided discovery sheet. T instructs: ' Look at Exercise 3. There are pictures and words. Match the words in box with the pictures. After students match, T lets them compare with their pairs before FB. T distrubutes answer key to let them check. T instructs sts for Exercise 3.1. ' There are definitions of the words. Match the words with their definitions.' Before T distributes answer key fo FB, T lets them compare their answers with their pairs. To clarify the meaning T asks some CCQs: Can two people sleep in a single room? (No) How many people can sleep in a double room? (Two) How many beds are there in a twin room? Two or one? (two) Is minibar inside the room ? (Yes) What can you find inside the minibar? ( soft drinks,snacks etc.) To clarify the pronunciation: T lwnat them to drill chorally and in groups.

Controlled Practice (5-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Activity 4 T changes the pairs and instructs: ' Look at the list of room and facilities again.(Teacher shows the list) Choose 4 important things from the list for the people here. Sts work in pairs to do the activity. Teacher groups them to share their ideas and what they have chosen. T gives WCFB to learn their opinions on activity. Activity 4.1 T instructs: 'Work in pairs and rearrange the letters to complete the guide here(by showing). The first one has been done for you. ICQs: Look at the first word. What is that? ... You will do the same. After sts do the activity teacher gives the answer key.

Semi-Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Sts work in pairs to share their ideas. T changes the pairs. To model the activity, T says that there are important facilities in hotels such as Free-WİFİ, TV, bath etc. but some of them are more important than the others. She writes on board. 'For me, an air conditioning is the most important because it is hot in summers and it keeps the room cool. T instructs: ' Now, work in pairs. What is the most important hotel or room facility for you? Explain to your pair. T give WCFB on ideas.

Free Practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

For the last stage of the lesson, T gives time for preperation. Preparation T instructs: ' Think of the hotels you have stayed. What is the best or worst hotel you have ever stayed in? Answer the questions in the last activity. ICQs: What are the questions ? SS:... T: Will you choose both the best and worst hotel? Ss: No T:Which one? SS: Just the best or the worst. After sts answer the questions, T pairs them up and instructs: ' Share your ideas with your pairs. Ask and answer these questions.' T monitors and helps them if necessary. After sts finishes sharing their ideas, T changes pairs and sts do the same. T changes the pairs for the last time and listens to sts by not disturbing or distracting them for giving WCFB
