Description

In this lesson students learn about wedding theme, The lesson starts with an anecdote of a wedding ceremony and goes on with vocabulary teaching and some practice and freer activities.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows some photos of her cousin's wedding ceremony, but doesn't tell that who they are. Sts work in pairs to describe what they see in the pictures. T instructs: Look at the photos. What do you see in these pictures? Who are they? Where are they? What are they doing? What are they wearing? Discuss with your pair. After sts discuss with their pairs, T learns their opinions about the pictures, but doesn't approve anything.

Exposure (4-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

1)T says: ' Listen to the story of these photos. Decide if you guessed truly or not. ' T tells the anecdote of these photos. 'These are the photos from an important day. This is a photo from ,my cousin's wedding ceremony. This is my cousin, Şeyda and her husband Muhammed. They are getting married. In this photo, Şeyda is the bride. She is wearing a wedding dress and Muhammed is the groom and he is wearing a suit. The wedding ceremony was in Eskişehir. We ate wedding cake, and danced. We took lots of photos. We had a good time.' T gives WCFB. 'How many of you thought the same? Did you say the same things to your partner?'

Highlighting (4-6 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

2) T instructs the students: 'Work alone. There are some photos about wedding ceremony. Match the pictures with the photos.' T gives the handout for the activity 1. After sts match, T lets them compare their answers with their pairs. T gives WCFB. T sets another task after they match the words with the pictures. Sts work in groups of 3. 'Look at the photos of my cousin's wedding ceremony. Which things do you see in these photos? Wedding cake? Which photo? '

Clarification (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Sts work in pairs to do the activity. T changes the students with numbering technique. T instructs: Work in pairs. There are words about weddings. Match these words with the photos here. T distributes the handout. Sts are supposed to match the pictures to their meaning. After they match, T gives WCFB for the answers by asking them their answers. T lets them drill the newly learnt words. T sets another activity. Work alone. Look at the Activity 1.1. Put the words to the correct category. After sts do the activity, T lets them compare their answers. T gives WCFB.

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Sts work in pairs for the practice activity. (Vocabulary 2) T instructs: ' Work in pairs. Read the short paragraph and complete the sentences with the right word. To check the answers, T plays the audio. Sts check their answers.

Semi-Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Sts work in groups of 3. (Workbook Activity 1. p.20) T instructs: ' Work in groups. There are some sentences. Complete the sentences with the right words from the box.' T lets them compare their answers with the other group members before WCFB.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T instructs: ' Think of a wedding ceremony you have been to. Read the questions here (showing them) and answer them. Lets read the first question. Who got married? What is the second question ?..' Sts are given free activity handout. T: 'Take notes, answer these questions' You have 3 minutes. After sts answer these questions, T pairs them up to let them describe their experiences. T: ' Now, tell your wedding ceremony experiences to each other.' T monitors them and listens to them carefully to give FB on good language and accuracy. T changes pairs to make them tell their experiences to different students. T gives WCFB by writing good language and also the language that needs to be reformulated.
