Description

In this lesson, students will learn about new lexical items which help them through reading. students will practice reading for details.

Main Aims

  • To provide scan and detailed reading practice using a text about Diet insider in the context of food

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Diet insider in the context of food

Procedure

Anticipated problems and solutions • To anticipate problems students might have during the session

Problems: Solution'; - Students may face difficult word - - clarify the meaning of the new vocab -Students may be shy as it is the beginning - Encourage them to speak and participate of the academic year

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask students what the title of the unit " We are what we mean' means. Start to ask some questions related to the topic: What did you eat for breakfast this morning? How could it be healthier? What Kind of food do you like most home-made food or fast food?

Pre-Reading - context- setting (3-4 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Ask students some questions related to the topic such as : Do you drink green tea? why / why not? Have you ever read about the benefits of green tea? What kind of chocolate do you like?

Pre-Reading (10-15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible- Teaching new lexical items.

Teaching new lexical items (blocking words ) Chesting HO1, ask students to match the word to the right picture or definition. Students will work individually for 2 minutes then they will check their answers in pairs. Give feedback and answer any difficulties that may face the students. Check Ls understanding through CCQs if necessary

While-Reading #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging a gist reading task

Ask students to read the headings and try to predict what the passage about. Students will work in pairs to compare their answers. Give them 2 minutes to read the passage quickly (skimming) to find whether they were right or wrong.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed reading tasks

Ask students to answer questions 1a-c page 31, students will work alone for 3 minutes then they will be asked to compare their answers. Discuss the answer with the students and give feedback. Note: Ask students to read the questions first underline the keywords. Ask them to predict which paragraph contains the answer according to headings.

Post-Reading (5-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

To speaking fluency on the text of food. Give students two different cards with wh-question about diet and food. Students will interview each other. Monitor while students doing the task, write positive and negative points. Give feedback.
