To provide practice of language used for giving recommendations in the context of travel
Procedure (34-51 minutes)
The teacher shows a video about travel to raise their awareness on the lesson and asks: "- What's the best holiday you've ever had so far? Discuss in pairs." The students get in pairs and talk. Later on a few sts share their friends2 holiday with the class.
The teacher writes three headings on the board; - Describing Places - Recommending - Questions to Ask Having written on pieces of paper and put around the classroom, the students walk around, pick the useful language phrases and place them under the correct column on the board.
The teacher handout a jumbled dialogue to the students and they reorder the dialogue referring to the useful expressions they've learned. They stand up and check the answers pinned up on the walls of the class. In pairs they practise the dialogue by changing the content and roles.
The teacher groups the students by handing out pieces of paper which is named with a travel destination. The students walk around and find their group members by asking; "- Where do you recommend going? " The ones who has the same travel destination groups up.
As tour guides, the students will recommend places to go in their cities, regions and countries. They decide on which place they'll talk about. The teacher hands out A3 size coloured papers for poster making.
They make a list of the places they'll recommend - they need to find at least 5 attractions to talk about - and make notes why they recommend those places. They make a poster for commercial showing those sights and the map of the destination.
The students get in pairs and try to sell their their tour by talking about their poster. At the end of the activity each student will pick one of the destinations offered and report to the class why they pick that place.
