Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of travel using requests with 'Can you ...?"

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of language used for requests in the context of travel


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I start with a "find someone who ..." to continue the previous lesson practicing orally using can in question form. Ss mingle asking and completing the task. w/c feedback

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Ss listen to two dialogues and match them with the photos (HO2) peercheck Ss practice the dialogues in pairs.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Give HO 3 which is a guided discovery task to ss to figure out the use and form of the functional language (exponent) for request Ss complete the task Peercheck w/c feedback Project the useful language and work on the pronunciation

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Give them HO4 with useful language and a photo to make a conversation for it using the useful language. Ss work in pair to make conversation Ss practice the dialogue Monitoring for errors to be corrected in the following stage

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

I write the good language used by Ss and praise them I write the errors made by Ss on the w/b and ask them if they can correct them
