What are they? -Is jewellery usually expensive or cheap? Expensive. -Is "Bostanlı Pazarı" a market? Yes. Do yo go there? Then the teacher gives the pre-reading 1 and asks students to complete the sentences that are true for them. When Ss finish they talk about their answers in pairs. Teacher monitors.

Pre-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Teacher assigns pre-reading 2. Ss work on the words on their own and check their answers in pairs. After teacher checks the answers W/C by showing pictures, she CCQs and drills the words in the exercise. CCQs: -Is a catalogue a type of book? Yes. Do we read it or do shopping from it? Do shopping. -If something is fashionable, do many people wear it? Yes. -Is "boyoz" a speciality in Izmir? Yes. -If you get a bargain, do you pay a lot of money? No. -Is IKEA a boutique? No. It's a mall. -Do you spend money when you go window shopping? No. -Can you buy clothes in a deli? No. You can buy fresh meat and dairy products. -Do people look at the displays to see the new products? Yes.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Teacher assigns students the first part (picture match) in comprehension 1. Ss read the text quickly and match the pictures to the three cities. Then teacher assigns the True/False exercise. Ss read the text again and tick the sentences T or F. Teacher monitors to check comprehension. Ss check answers in pairs. Finally teacher checks answers W/C and asks Ss how they've got the correct answer by referring to the text.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Before teacher assigns Comprehension 2, she checks the meaning of "beat" and "interior" by a quick matching activity. After Ss match the two words with their meaning, teacher assigns Comprehension 2. As this is a more challenging activity, Ss work in pairs and then check their answers as a big group. Teacher monitors and helps where necessary. Then they check answers W/C by referring to the text and the key words.

Post-Reading/Listening (6-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Teacher assigns the vocabulary exercise. Ss work on their own and choose the correct word in each sentence. Teacher monitors for errors and delayed feedback. They check in pairs and then with the teacher W/C. If there is enough time, teacher assigns the conversation questions. Ss work in group(s) asking and answering the questions. Teacher monitors and takes notes for delayed feedback.
