In this lesson, students will practice daily routines in context of reading about an actress's day.

Main Aims

  • To provide Ss practice in reading for specific information and detail in the context of an actress’ typical day

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T gives an anecdote about his daily routine and asks students to discuss daily activities every day they do.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T introduces the new vocabulary items by putting the daily routine pictures such as "have lunch/breakfast, finish work" on the door and gets Ss in pairs to match the words on cards with the pics. Whole class feedback takes place Then, T introduce parts of the day such as in the morning, in the afternoon etc. Ss put the daily routines in the parts of the day. Whole class feedback takes place. T asks students if they have any questions.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T asks students to guess what an actor's daily routine is like - they can think about times,etc.- Ss talk to their partners about their ideas and T elicits some ideas but he doesn't confirm anything. Also, T elicits a few new vocabulary items from such as "glamorous" from the students. Then Ss read the text individually and check their answers with their partners. T shows the answers on the whiteboard.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T gives Ss T/F statements in ex. 3. Students work individually, read the text and choose the correct statement. Students check their answers with their partners. Whole class feedback takes place. T asks for justification. ICQ: Are you working together or alone?

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T asks ss some general questions about the reading text and has students discuss in pairs. The questions are as following: 1-Are you surprised about Kari’s life? 2-Is it an easy or difficult life? 3-Is it fun?Why? 4-Is is interesting?Why Ss share their ideas in pairs and whole class check is carried out.
