In this lesson students learn how to talk about accommodation in English using new word.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about home in the context of accommodation for language students

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of accommodation words. in the context of accommodation for language students

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Give students prediction activity so that they think about the topic and get their brain ready for reading.show ss real advertisement.Personalize and contextualize the topic,meanwhile teach some of new vocabularies from the text.check ss understanding with CCQ. e.g:bedsit,house-sit,pcm,share,bill,inclusive,basement,using pictures,simple examples definitions. Ss think about a question you write on the board.share their ideas with their partner.report to the class. where do you stay in foreign country as a student ?

Pre-Reading (8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

project the chart on the board.Give one advertisement to them. Ask ss what does 5 mean?what does bill mean? after one example,encourage the students to guess other letters in pairs.project the answers on the board.ask ss e.g: why they think n 2 is ...... check with the whole class.

While-Reading (12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

Tell ss students they are going to read profiles about students go to Cambridge university to stude for three months.give profiles to students. Ss read them alone.After reading share what they get out of the text with their partner.tell the whole class.

While-Reading 2 (12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Ss walk around the class with their partner and read the advertisement on the wall and match each person with the most suitable accommodation. Ss write : We think accommodation A is good for (Cristophe) because ......(He has a car and the house has a parking space) Ss write 1 sentence for each in pairs. check your answer with partner. Ss tell the class if they agree or disagree with each others sentences.

Post-Reading (12 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Give a real advertisement to ss ,ask them to read first then talk in groups of three about which accommodation they like to stay in.
