TP4-Listening- A description of a film

Description

In this lesson, students practice their listening for gist and detailed comprehension in the context of describing a film(The Holiday). They will also practice 5 relationship verbs in the context of that film.The lesson starts with a short video clip about falling in love.This is followed by a pre-listening activity and pre-teaching 5 words from the listening text.Next, there is a gist task and after it a detailed comprehension one.Finally, a post -listening task where students will be able to have a discussion about the film and teaching 5 phrasal verbs and prepositional collocations.

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, learners will have practiced their listening for gist and detailed comprehension in the context of describing a film (The Holiday)

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of relationship verbs in the context of a film
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of film

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask Ss to watch the video clip and answer two questions about it. Ss will watch and answer the questions individually. Take w/c feedback

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Show Ss a picture and ask them to predict the task. Ss will discuss it in pairs. Monitor and help Takew/c FB. Pre-teach 5 words (elicit, ask CCQS, Oral model and drill,write it on the board)

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Ask the Ss to listen to a woman talking about the film in the last picture and answer this question(what kind of film is it?) play the recording.(Listening 1.35) Ss will listen and answer the question. Takew/c FB

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Ask students about the characters. Give Ss time.Ask Ss to read the task individually and see what they can remember from the previous listening. Ask them to discuss what they can remember in pairs. Take a very fast FB. Play the recording. Ask the Ss to do the listening 1.35. Ask the Ss to peer-check. Distribute the audioscript. (answer key). Ss look at the audioscript and check their answers.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Put the Ss in groups. Ask the Ss to discuss the fim and give their opinions about it. Ask the Ss to give reasons for their opinions. Monitor and help if necessary. Take FB.
