Description

In this lesson, students revise the present perfect (with for and since) and are introduced to present perfect continuous. the context is provided by the story of a British family whose holiday to Uganda changed their lives and led them to set up a charity to help build a new school for orphan children.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To enable students to extend their understanding and use of present perfect simple and to introduce and provide clarification of present perfect continuous in the context of the story of a British family

Procedure

warmer/lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To get Ss interested and make a link to the previous lesson

In pairs, Ss will talk about whatever they can remember from the previous listening about Jane and her trip I will take a brief feedback asking a couple of Ss what they can remember

Exposure (3-4 minutes) • to expose Ss to the target languuage

Give Ss Ho1 and ask them to match questions1-3 with answers A-C In pairs, Ss match questions1-3 with answers A-C

Highlighting (3-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Give Ss Ho2 and ask them to answer questions 1&2 in pairs In pairs Ss do Ho2 Peer check with other pairs WB FB

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the TL

Giv Ss Ho 3 and ask them to answer part A (meaning) in pairs Ss work in pairs answering questions in part A. Semi Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • To prepare Ss for free practice

Give Ss Ho7 and demonstrate or model an example for myself on the wb Give Ss 4 mins to write true information in as many of the circles as they can Go round the class making sure they have completed at least six of the circles and helping where needed

Free Pracice (8-10 minutes) • To provide Ss with free practice of the TL

Give them HO 8 and to demonstrate the task I tell Ss to ask me questions about my circle. Elicit the question & drill Ss work in pairs asking their partners questions about their circles Monitor for good language and errors Write good language on the board Write Ss errors on the board and elicit correction
