Description

In this lesson, Students practice speaking for fluency in the context of planning a school.The lesson starts with showing 2 pictures on the projector and asking questions.This is followed by a listening to a model of how to carry out a conversation using the functional language to ask for information about a course.Then some useful language are introduced (collocations)to enable students to speak for the final activity.Then there is a functional language activity to highlight and check the TL from the listening model.Finally, there is a production task via a final role model speaking activity to provide students with use of the TL on their own and a delayed error correction stage.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show SS two pictures

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Give instructions to ex1 Ask Ss to listen once for gist and the second time for specific information Ss listen and answer the Os in exercise 1 Ss peer-check Monitor and help if needed Take w/c FBT

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Hold up the handout and point to the question Ask the Ss to match the words in column A to B individually Ss peer-check Monitor and help Take w/c FB Focus on MPF

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Put Ss in pairs Hold up the handout and point to the question Tell them to use the Qs and brainstorm ideas Give them time to think about their plan Ask them to join to another pair and compare their ideas Monitor discreetly Take notes for FB and delayed error correction

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Ask pairs for their ideas about which plan works best Monitor and take notes Write the errors on the board Involve SS by elicting corrections
