Pre-intermediate level


In this lesson ,the students will practice skimming for the general ideas of the text and will learn some vocabulary about life style (eating habits).the lesson will start by asking questions about students's eating habits.then,iwe will work on the meaning of some blocking vocabulary by matching them to their synonyms and antonynms which are on the board.after quick skimm they will tell a summary about the main text and it will continue by working on the passage.there will be activities and games at the end of the session too.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about obesity in the context of life style

Subsidiary Aims

  • Introducing the students some new vacabulary and have them practice these vacabulary through some flashcards,including" definitions ."


Warmer/Lead-in (5-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will talk about their eating habit and discuss about it together

Exposure (10-12 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

1-the students will work on some blocking words from text by matching them to their synonyms and antonyms on the board 2- after checking the matching part with the WC the teacher will put some examples or definitions on the board and will have the students match the definitions to the suitable examples .4- at least stage of pre-reading ,the teacher will try to teach the pronunciation of the blocking vocabulary and have the students repeat the pronunciation of the words.

Useful Language (12-15 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

1- the teacher will have the students practice skimming through the text quickly and tell short summary about it.then read it together and also work on the definition of the text.

Productive Task(s) (10-12 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

1- When the reading finished the students will have time to correct their answers on the board according to the reading. 2- students will do exercise A and try to guess the definition but using the flash cards.3- find them trough the text.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

as it known ,the backup stage is used as an extension this stage ,the teacher will have the students work in pairs and discuss what they learn in today's lesson and have them remember the blocking vocabulary.
