Reading- Body language
Pre-intermediate level

Description

In this session, students will complete a reading lesson about body language. First for doing warm up I will ask them some questions about body language and discuss about it. Then I will show them the pictures of the book and ask them ti describe them. After that, the students will skim the reading and I will ask them about the gist of the reading. Next they will scan the text individually and I will ask them randomly to read the text. Afterward I will read for them and elicit new words. On the next page, the students will do an exercise related to the reading and I will their answers. At the end we will have a discussion about body language in different cultures.

Main Aims

  • To provide deduction and inference reading practice using a text about body language in the context of body language in different cultures

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of body language in different cultures

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In this session, in order to give them warm-up and the context I will ask them some questions about the body language which is the main topic. Questions: _ Do you think speaking is more important or body language? _ Which one of them is more effective?Why? _ Do you pay attention or care about body language? _ Can we use the same gestures in other countries?

Pre-Reading/Listening (6-0 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

On this part, I will ask them to look at their book on the above and say that which hand gestures people use in our country? Is there any gestures in our country which is really bad while it is a good sign in the America?

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

In this section, students will skim through the text and then I will ask them what they understood and what is the topic.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

At this stage, students will scan the text and I will ask some of them to read the text aloud and then I will read for them and elicit new words and write them on the board, after that I will drill the words.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-0 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

On the last stage, students will do an exercise related to the reading then we will check the answers. At the end we will have a discussion about body language in different cultures.
