Description

In this lesson, the students will practice listening based on the context of inside and outside activities. they are familiar with some activities because they have practiced in a few sessions before. This lesson is followed up by a speaking practice as a productive skill.

Materials

Abc 8 pictures of activities
Abc Cutting Edge, Third Edition, Sarah Cunningham, Peter Moor, Araminta Crace, Pearson Education Limited

Main Aims

  • To provide specific information and detailed listening practice using a text about In and out activities in the context of hobbies and activities

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Talking about some usual activities

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T greets the Ss. T shows 8 pictures of different activities. T elicits the phrases from the Ss. Then practice the pronunciation and askes for the stresses. T attaches the pics on the WB and writes the phrases underneath. T asks them to classify the pictures as inside and outside activities.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T says a sentence about himself in past simple tense e.g. I went to the park last weekend. and askes for the stress. T has the students to talk about themselves and give a sentence in past tense about themselves. If there are more than one students they should practice together first.

While-Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T askes the Ss to pair up and look at the information requested by the exercise 2a on page 74 of Cutting edge, Third Edition Then they are asked to listen to the audio track and try to extract wanted information and write them down. the Ss will listen to the file again to check their answers.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Before listening to the file for the next time T has the Ss to answer exercise 3a on page 74 of Cutting Edge, Third Edition. They should pair up and do the practice together, then they can check their answers. correct answers are written by the T on the WB. Ss listen to the file again and should find out which sentence belongs to whom. they should put the first letter of the names of the people who are talking.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T has the students to practice and talk together about their evenings. They are told they can use the questions given in the previous exercise if they needed help. T monitors them and gives them feedback and corrects the possible errors.
