In this lesson, students will learn about character adjectives based on various activities.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of characters adjective in the context of describing person

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a group work in the context of character adjective

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher tells a story about her friends to set the context. While doing it, she does not directly give the words, she tries to get the target vocabulary items from the students. With the story, students engage with the topic and they have some ideas about the lesson.

Exposure (6-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through vocabulary

After the story, the T writes vocabulary items on the WB. She makes drill and elicits vocabulary items on the WB. Students can see the written vocabulary items.

Useful Language (5-6 minutes) • To highlight and clarify the meaning of target vocabulary items for coming productive tasks

The teacher dives the WB into two. She sticks target vocabulary items and definitions on different sides. The words will be stuck randomly. After that, the T wants students to match the correct definitions and the correct words. Then, students check their answers together.

Productive Task(s) (9-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

The teacher gives handouts to students. In this activity, students will ask each other what kind of personality have they got and they will write the students' name below the boxes. It will be a productive activity for students to use target vocabulary items. Then, they will share their answers with the classroom.

Useful Language (7-8 minutes) • to make more practice and get the meaning of the words

Students are given the definitions of character adjectives in a small paper. Students read the definitions one by one and the others try to guess which word is it. According to the number of students the activity can be played as a competition.

Feedback and Error Correction (3-4 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

During the practices, the T focus on students' answers and performance. At the end of the lesson, she explains what is needed.
