  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about Information overload in the context of technology

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of technology

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

showing old images on slides to Ss and ask them "how did people gather information in the past without having internet?"

Pre-Reading (3-4 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Show Ss images about reading and gathering information on modern days ask Ss to talk in pairs about the advantages and disadvantages about internet access for gathering information. Ask ICQs are you going to write anything ? (no) are you going to work in pairs ?(yes) Ask the Ss to share most important ideas in class in order to have a feed back from the pair work.

While-Reading #1 (5-6 minutes) • To provide students challenging gist information reading tasks

stick a paper on the title of reading Giving Ss a reading and also handout 1containing 4 names ask Ss to read the article fast and choose a suitable name for reading article. ask ACQs : are you going to work in pairs ? (no) are you going to read slow or fast ? (fast ) Ss do the practice , check the answer in pairs ask Ss the about the chosen topic for having a feed back from the pair work Ss remove the paper , see the answer and check.

pre-teach vocabulary (5-8 minutes) • To clarify meaning , pronunciation and form of new words

Ask Ss to look at the highlighted words and try to guess the meaning Ask ICQs : are you going to work individually ? (no) are you going to write anything ? (no) Show Ss the pictures on the board , ask them to choose(guess) right word for each picture from the highlighted words. Elicit the meaning of four words ( hit - blogger - survey - multitasking ) Ask CCQs ( mentioned in LA sheet ) drill the pronunciation elicit form of the words Ask Ss to make an example (make sentences orally)

While-Reading #2 (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

Ask Ss to do practice 1.2.3 individually ( for specific information ) Ask ICQs : are you going to work in group ?(no) Ask Ss to check the answers in pairs write the answers on the board to check

While-Reading #3 (5-8 minutes) • To provide students a practice for deeper comprehension about the reading task

Ask Ss to read different paragraphs and summarize it. ask ICQs : are you going to write something ? (yes) are you going to work in pairs ?(no) are you going to read slowly ?(yes) Ask Ss to explain their own paragraph to the partner

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Tell Ss that information overload some how affects our lives ask Ss to think about " how information overload affects different parts of your life?- your work-your studies - your social life - your family life " take some notes on handout given (individually). give them hand out 2. ask ICQs : are you going to write whole ideas ?(no) are you going to take note ? (yes) ask Ss to talk about it in pairs .

Error-correction (2-3 minutes) • To provide delayed-correction for students

Write the errors on the board including one correct sentence, ask Ss to correct it. Give Ss a new reading with related subject , including practice for that subject and also the answers to practice the skill at home.
