Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of words and phrases related to work

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of work

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

To engage the students, I will ask them to talk about the job they already have or they want to have in the future. Asking them why they like that job and if they are satisfied with their job.

Exposure (4-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The students are going to see some pictures about a woman and the things that happen to her in her job. They will try to make a story about the pictures and tell the class. They can write some short sentences if they want.

Highlighting (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

The students are going to be given some sentences about the pictures and try to match them with the pictures. They will compare their answers in pairs and then they will listen to the audio to check their answers.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

In this stage, they will be provided with the new vocabulary. I am going to elicit the meaning of the vocabulary and the part of speech. They will listen to the audio and try to find the stressed syllable of each word.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students will be given an exercise of gap filling with the given words. They have four minutes to do the exercise individually, and then they will check their answers in pairs. Finally, they check the answers with the board.

Free Practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

They will be provided with some words in order to make some questions to ask their partner. They will try to make an interview in pairs. They have five minutes to prepare their questions and answers and five minutes to act out the dialogue in the class.
