Description

In this lesson students are going to learn how to write an Adv/Disadvantage essay about technology through a text.

Materials

Abc Text, PPT, colorful papers, pictures

Main Aims

  • To provide process and product writing practice of a an essay in the context of technology

Subsidiary Aims

  • students may be better able to have critical thinking through topics and express their own ideas

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- Showing photos to Ss about TV and its programs and a family who are watching it then asking them some questions about TV like: 1. Do you like watching TV? 2. What programs do you watch on TV? 3. Do you think TV has affected our lives ?Why? 4. What are the Positive points and negative points about having TV? 5. Do you think we can live without TV? - Writing their ideas and listing them on the board

Exposure (5-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

- Giving Ss a text about " living without TV" to read individually and see if they predicted advantages or disadvantages right or not. - Asking them to find out advantages and disadvantages of the text and underline them individually - dividing them into pairs so they have to check their answers together and say do they agree with them or not

Useful Language (8-12 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

- Asking Ss to read the text again and take a look at highlighted words in the text which are vocabulary that are needed for listing and conjunction - Asking one of them to write them on the board - Explaining the usage - Giving Ss some cards that the synonyms of vocabulary are written on them - Showing the text on the board and asking Ss to come to the board and replace the words by using cards

Productive Task(s) (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

- Providing another topic which is " smartphone" then asking Ss to discuss together and write some positive & negative points about it and its effect on our lives - Giving each student a paper that the introduction of the essay has been written on it , so they have to continue and write the essay individually

Feedback and Error Correction (5-7 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

- When they are finished They have to stick their writing on the wall and have a gallery walk in classroom, read their friends' essays and correct their mistakes - Giving their papers back to read others comments on them - Getting their papers to check at home and asking them to write another essay at home
