In this lesson students will have a better idea about reported speech through working on MPF and also different practices and activities.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of Reported speech in the context of reading task about coincidence

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a Reported speech in the context of news , story ,etc ( optional )


Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Tell Ss a story about a coincidence : seeing Baran in CELTA course going through MPF for "coincidence" if they don't know the meaning. Ask Ss do you have a favorite coincidence story ? ask them to share their story in pairs. Ask ICQs : are you going to write any thing ? (no) are you going to work alone ? (no)

Exposure (5-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

set a gist question and write it on the board " which coincidence do you think is more interesting? " then give the reading to Ss and ask Ss to read the context individually. Ask ICQs : are going to work in pairs ? (no) then ask them to share Ideas with their friends in pairs. Ask ICQs : are you going to work in pairs ? (yes) , are you going to write something ? (no)

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ask Ss to read the task and look at the highlighted sentences and guess what are the highlighted sentences ? what do they mean ? in one minute . ask ICQs : are you going to write something ? ( no ) What should you think about ? (highlighted sentences ) read the sentences to write on the board.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

going through MPF . Ask Ss to guess the meaning of sentences , try to elicit the meaning , ask CCQs ( mentioned in LA) , work on pronunciation , try to elicit form of the grammar. make some examples.

Controlled Practice (5-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ask Ss do the worksheet individually . Ask ICQs :are you going to do it in pairs ? (no) then Ask Ss to check the answers in pairs , ask ICQs . give answer sheet to Ss to check.

Semi-Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Giving Students instruction of activity : explain about the video, ask Ss to watch the video and try to remember what are they saying asking ICQs ask Ss to report the video with their partners , asking ICQs play the video again to check their answers

Free Practice (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Giving Ss a paper which contains 5 subjects , ask them to choose 2 of them and report (write), model for them , ask ICQs : are you going to write any thing ? (yes) are you going to do something individually ? (yes) Ss do the practice then ask them to share the reports and talk about it to their partners

Error-correction (2-3 minutes) • to provide Ss feed back for freer practice

write Ss mistakes on the board including one correct sentence at the end and ask them for peer correction. Giving Ss hand out for home which contains lesson's summary and also practice.
