Description

In this lesson, the Ss will face past simple and will practice the tense in a reading class. they have learned some vocabulary before my class and they will practice and learn grammar (simple past) specifically.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about an ordinary man in the context of about starting up business and hobbies

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of hobbies and business in the context of hobbies and business
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of hobbies and ideas about collecting.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

the Ss will be asked to a general question: "do you like to have collections?" they will share their ideas in PAIRS or GROUPS.

Pre-Reading (5-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

the Ss will be asked to look at the pictures and say short sentences and practice and guess which pictures are related to the text gist. they will be handed out some pictures and will do their activity in PAIRS.

While-Reading #1 (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

In this stage, the Ss will be asked to put some pictures/sentences based on their taking place in the text. This activity will be done in a GROUP.

While-Reading #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

the Ss will be provided with some Wh and T/F questions as task 2 to find and give the answers. they must read the text again and focus more to be able to find the correct word or sentences.

Post-Reading (5-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

they will be handed some questions to answer. they should stand up and ask everyone in the class. the Ss will be asked to take notes from everybody's answers.
