Description

In this lesson students will be given a recording to listen. Before that a reading text and some questions will help students comprehend the context. The activities involved will be open ended questions. The lesson will end with a discussion.

Main Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about Debra and Andrew in the context of journey

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a in group discussion

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher tells students about a long or difficult journey she has made including as much as details possible. After, she gives 2-3 minutes to think about a long or difficult journey they have made, then ask them to tell each other about in pairs.

Pre-Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Teacher gives handouts to the students. After a short looking at pictures, she wants students to focus on headline and photos. The T checks the meaning of '' to row, and shifts.'' Before listening, the SS read the text and discuss the questions.

While-Listening (6-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Students listen to the first part of the story and answers questions. There will be 3 questions to answer. Students will listen for the gist. Then, they will discuss about their answers as a peer.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

In that part, students will listen to the audio for detailed questions. The audio is about the rest of the story and there will be seven questions to answer. After listening, students will check their answers together or as a peer.

Post-Listening (5-6 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

As a post listening activity, some related questions will be given students do discuss. They will comment and they will share ideas about the three questions by using ''I think..........., In my opinion..........., I disagree/agree...........,'' It will help students to speak fluently.
