In this lesson, students will learn some words about sports. The lesson starts with introducing the words through guided discovery based on context of listening about the sports. This follows by an activity in which students will describe different sports to their partners and their partners try to understand which sport it is. They continue by a listening file about describing the sport movements. Finally, they complete an activity that introduce listening into a speaking activity.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of vocabularies about sports through a context of using appropriate verbs with the types of sports.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of listening and speaking in a freer practice


Warmer/Lead-in (3-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher greets SS and starts introducing the topic as following ; we know that food is important to our health in general. Today I would like to present a topic is as important as food for our health, but first let have some fun. stand up please and come near to me. T plays an energetic video clip and ask them to practice like the video clip. for 1 min. after tat, T: what were we going? doing exercise T: what are we going to talk about???? SS: Sports and Activities T: very good Teacher writes the topic title on the board .then elicits from SS what sports and what activities Sports Activities - Soccer - Youga - karate - Earobics -Swimming - Jogging T asks SS have you ever practiced one of these sports and activities S1: yes, I played soccer

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

show the pictures of the new vocabulary andclarify the meaning and pronunciation and parts of speech of the words:by asking CCQs we have some words which are related to the sports. 1.bunker 2. corner 3. penalty 4. lap 5. match point 6. hole 7. serve 8. track

Highlighting (4-6 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

give task 1. and ask them to put each word in its appropriate column. 1 min then ask them to share their answers with their partner. give them he answer sheet to check . T discusses Go ,Do and play with sports and activities T: can I say I go Soccer, or can I say I play swimming? SS; NO T: So what should we say S1: I go swimming T: very good S2: I play soccer T: wonderful , Now let's play a collocation game T sticks 2 words on the board Go and Play T:What will you do is in 2 groups . each group representative sticks the appropriate sports or activity card with the correct verb on the board . T distributes the card sets among the groups and the game starts. after the game , for feedback, T asks them how did they discriminate? and Ss tell the activities which end with "ing" come with "go". T: amazing, you are excellent

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T : I hope you enjoyed the class till now. now lets listen to a recording file and find the name of four sports they are talking about. after listening, ask them to discuss with their partner about the answers. then , write their answer in your handouts. T distributes answer sheets among SS to check their answer. T praises SS for correct answer and their effort

Semi-Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T clarify for them the movements : into , out,round and over by gesturing. then give them task 2 and ask them to listen again and write he appropriate movement. after that, ask them to come to the board and write their answers and then the other check. at last T check. match them with the pictures.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

ask them to go to their favorite sport (which is placed in the class) , play it and explain about it for his/her partner
